A little bit about myself: This year will be my 11th year as an educator. I taught at Kirkpatrick Elementary before coming to Sam Rosen. Prior to teaching, I worked in the banking industry. I am married to a wonderful man named Abel. I don't have children of my own, but I have two of the best step-daughters and two granddaughters. I love traveling, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.

Second Grade Dual Language Teacher

Hello Everyone! Thank you for your warm welcome to Sam Rosen Elementary. I am extremely happy to join this family.

I believe in education as a transfer of hope and knowledge. This is my why. I was born in beautiful Havana. I studied in a rural school under communist principals during my first and second grade. My family migrated to Spain when I was eight. There, I was thrown into a full Catalan immersion school. I struggled and was always in trouble. I quit school to work full time at age fourteen as my father was dying. A couple in my community saw potential in me and provided the encouragement and tools for me to go back to school and persevere. I attended middle and high school after work and graduated.

I migrated to the US alone at age twenty-one, learned basic English while working long hours, and applied to several colleges. I was accepted in a college on probation for my low language scores. I graduated Cum Laude in four years and became an elementary bilingual teacher. I got a full ride for a masters degree in Bilingual Education at Saint John’s University in NYC. After marrying my wife from Barcelona, we moved there and raised our kids. I worked developing a program in a trilingual school. Eventually, I became vice-principal for about ten years. During the last thirteen years of my life I have been teaching adults and organizing ESL classes for immigrants. After finishing my last project, I decided to go back to my roots as a teacher. It is a joy to be in Sam Rosen and be part of this school family. I am looking forward to working with all of you.

2nd Grade Regular Program Teacher

My name is Mrs. Shah. I am a Second Grade Teacher at Sam Rosen Elementary. I have been teaching at Sam Rosen for 21 years. This year will be 25 years teaching for FWISD. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Indiana State University. I have one daughter and one son, and I have been married for 15 years. I enjoy teaching all grade levels, but my favorite one is 2^nd grade.
